What about the ones who WATCHED THE PATIENT DIE?
by Terry ini was deep into my jehovah's witness life pre 1975 as the drumbeat to that mysterious yet specific date loomed large.. it was presented as a countdown to jehovah's promise of a 1000 year reign.
"how fitting" was the popular phrase!.
but, it was more like a countdown of a different sort.. .

Die-hard JWs definitely live for the "what if" moment of Armageddon. They are so conditioned to believe this life has nothing to offer. Therefore, they can't see that they are wasting this life; desperately hoping and praying and waiting for the grand finale.

BORN-INS! What Were The Most Annoying Quotes Your Parents Would Say?
by OneStepOut93 inregarding worldly people, shows or toys?
etc...what quotes annoyed you the most?.
for me it was "well, you have to remember, they're worldly"... "don't trust anyone who isn't in the truth" "they may be nice but they are not friends of jehovah"... just a few to name.

These stupid videos remind me of my JW upbringing. I probably shouldn't look at them.
So further reminder that you should be praying to some imaginary being instead of interacting with those around you and living the life you have.
ndmom I was thinking the same thing about the bus ride home.

I sometimes think about how I'll handle end of life issues or incapacities with my family and friends.
I think I will decide what is the minimum that I can do and still respect myself. Then on the days I can and want to do more, I will.
My MIL was a complete B up until the day she died. My husband refused to see or talk to her (she was his stepmom). He was in a peaceful place while she cursed his siblings' lives each time they visited and called.
I hope you make and keep the peace you deserve in this situation. You're a good brother and she should do her best to be a good sister.

this world is a reflection of you
by ballistic ini was recently on holiday aka "vacation" on a beautiful island, and turned a corner on a cliff top to see a wall with graffitti on it (ironically), "this world is a reflection of you - take care what you do with it.
" or words to that effect.
so i got thinking it's about dropping litter and stuff.

I believe that once our basic needs are met that is probably true.

Jehovah's Witnesses and Divorce
by Eustace ini really hate divorce.
it was my parents getting divorced that helped messed up my childhood.. part of why i came to conclude the jehovah's witnesses don't have the "spiritual paradise" they claim to is how many of their marriages end up in divorce.my parents i could dismiss as an exception to a general rule, but i could never understand how often it seemed to keep happening to lots of different people when the watchtower society teaches that divorce is wrong except in case of adultery.. but what really brought things home for me was this study by the pewforum on religion survey showing that even though jehovah's witness are less likely to be married than the general population, they're more likely to be divorced or separated.. http://religions.pewforum.org/.
they really have a nerve telling people in the jehovah's witnesses religion that they shouldn't have sex outside of marriage when they've done so little to protect jws who get married, and their children, from the extreme stress and conflict of divorce.. it's really messed up.. heck, even the catholics they're are always dumping on have a lower divorce/separation rate than the jws.. jw divorced/separated = 14%.

A major source of disillusionment for me was my parents divorce. I spent all of my life praying to Jehovah to keep my parents and family together. When they were separated, NOT 1 elder attempted to meet with them to help them work things out.
Many JWs divorce for "unscriptural reasons" also. If you lie on your mate and the story is dramatic enough, then the divorce is ok with the org.
